Series Overview: Our Promoting Critical Thinking through Inquiry Based Learning is a four-session series in which we will explore different approaches to inquiry that will go beyond a collection of techniques or activities. Each session will focus on the key features of the inquiry based instructional methodology and on the development of new skills. While you are welcome to participate in individual sessions, you will achieve the greatest returns by completing the full series.

The four sessions include:

1. Inquiry Based Learning for Science Instruction

2. Implementing Engineering Practices in your Classroom

3. Inquiry Based Learning for Mathematics Instruction

4. Inquiry Based Learning Meets Writing

Session 3: Inquiry Based Learning for Mathematics Instruction: Questioning, reasoning, and application skills can be challenging to integrate into instruction and even more so to develop in learners. Instruction that employs Inquiry Based Learning can aid in overcoming these obstacles. During this session, participants will engage in the 3-act math process. This process cultivates and promotes inquiry based learning in math instruction, which fosters deep understanding of mathematical concepts and applications for high stakes assessments such as the TASC.
